The Main is the core of GTA and here is all the information about it!
The "Main.scm" Contains all of the missions included with GTA game it's from, it also defines objects, sub-missions/side-missions such as the taxi and vigilante missions. Without a "Main.scm" the game would crash so be sure not to remove it from its location.
The "Main.scm" can be located in
GTA directory --> "Data" folder for "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" and "Grand Theft Auto 3"
OR
GTA directory "Data" --> "Script" folder for "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas"
The MAIN can be created from scratch but I'm not going to cover that because if we was planning on doing that it would be much easier to create a CLEO script.
Also as notified on the Coding FAQ page using an edited or scratch made version of the MAIN disables the option of using save games, Take a look on the FAQ page it reads and I quote "The save game stores mission information, if the save file cannot find the missions in the SCM (Main) then it cannot load and therefor results in your game crashing"
Now I have made my point that it really is pretty much useless to create a MAIN from scratch since we have the almighty power of CLEO! :D
Although you can find a stripped MAIN (One without missions, just loads what's needed and spawns the player in the world) in the Sanny Builder directory.
If you were wanting to edit the MAIN and wanted coding examples go and investigate the CLEO Tutorials.
Everything you learn there can be implemented into the MAIN (With common sense) don't copy and paste everything from those tutorials into the MAIN your editing because errors are destined to come knocking on your door.
NOTE: Using this code in your MAIN is useless as it defines a CLEO script:
{$CLEO}
0000:
(This is what I mean by using common sense)
Stripping GTA
"Stripping" is the named used for the method of taking all the missions out of GTA
Look inside the Sanny Builder directory and click "Data", You will see a bunch of files and folders.
We are concentrating on the "gta3", "VC" and "SA" folders because these contain the stripped mains for each game
(Scroll down for VC and SA stripping methods)
GTA 3
If you are wanting to strip GTA 3, Navigate to "gta3" inside the data folder of Sanny Builders directory as we just discussed and follow the instructions below.
1. Copy "stripped.txt" from "Sanny Builder" -> "Data" -> "gta3"
2. Now paste that file into "GTA 3 directory" -> "Data"
3. Delete "Main.txt" and "Main.scm" from that same folder and rename the "stripped.txt" what you just copied to "Main.txt"
4.Right click this file and select "Open with", select Sanny Builder and wait for it to open.
5. Once opened make sure your settings in Sanny Builder are configured correctly with GTA 3's directory and press F7 (Compiles a MAIN script)
You should get a report that looks similar to this (The figures wont be the same):
